Akumal Activities
Akumal Bay
 Akumal means "place of the turtle" as our beachs are lined with turtle nests each spring. Both the Loggerhead and Green Sea Turtles come all the way from the coasts of Europe to lay their eggs on the exact beach in which they were born.
You too will have an opportunity to see these unique nestings and hatchlings during the months of May September.
The 3 bays of Akumal are located a 1 hour drive south of the Cancun International airport on Hwy #307. Come on down enjoy the most pristine coastline in the Caribbean, and stay with us at the Villas DeRosa Resort.
Ruins
 Tulum, Coba, and Chichen Itza The Best Know Ruins. Tulum is 15 min. to our south. Coba is 1 hour inland, and Chichen Itza is 2.5 hours inland. Equally wonderful, but much less visited are Chunyaxche and Ex Balaam.
• Chunyaxche is within 40 min. away with a Mayan village unchanged from living the way their ancestors lived, close by.
• Ex Balaam, combined with a visit to the beautiful colonial town of Valladolid,Yucatan is one of the best-kept secrets.
There are many other archeological sites available for the serious Mayan Buff.
Eco-Parks
 Xcaret, Xel-ha, Xpu-ha, Tres Rios, Actun Chen.
Swim with dolphins; walk through a decorated dry cave, a multitude of activities...
• Xcaret is a full day park, with Mayan Villas, Butterfly emporium, jaguars...you can also swim with the dolphins.
Xel-ha specializes in swimming with dolphins too, along with naturetrails and snorkeling.
Snorkel Parks
 Ocean Reefs: Everyone from young to old can enjoy their days with snorkeling and you can explore right outside our front doors, where you will find a shallow, colorful, living reef. Another option...go in our Aņejo boat to the caletas for endless variety and fun.Caletas are protected Lagoons where an outflow of underground rivers meets the sea. These are the breeding grounds for the colorful juvenile fishes so plentiful in our area.
Crystal Clear Cenotes:
Are always calm and a great place to learn to snorkel.
Gran Cenote, Car Wash, Temple of Doom, Dos Ojos:
Just a few. Excellent snorkeling.Snorkeling the sacred cenotes (the eye's of Mother Earth) Savor the moment,swim and snorkel... the landlubber will enjoy this adventure too!

 Both are cites that are great for shopping, eating and nightlife.

 Bring your binoculars, but don't forget your magnifying glass for butterflies orchards, beetles, and more. In Playa del Carmen, you will find a beautiful Aviary. Crocofarm see crocodiles in captivity at crocofarm. Located just north of Puerto Morelos.
Dr. Alfredo Berrera Marin, Botanical garden is open daily, for all to enjoy. Located close to Puerto Morelos.
For off the trail adventures, try Selva Maya Bicycle and horseback riding guided tours, departing from Akumal. Visit beautiful cenotes (sinkholes) and crystal clear underground rivers and wonderfully decorated caves.
