How many do they want?
While walking down the beach, a big scratched bag, known as Geotube, was found around 7 Pm on october 17on the coastline, This isn't the first time one of this "bags" appear on Akumal's beach as it can be seen on the video section and this isn't going to be the last time we see a Geotube in bad conditions.
Geotube usage is getting popular in the Riviera Maya, as they are known to work for beach recovery, but at what price?."Geo-textile tubes" are considered experimental technology because theres no long term stuidies about them, they became popular in the Riviera coastline after Hurricane Wilma but they had been used to build fake beaches since 2000.
There has been several weather strikes (hurricanes, tropical stroms) since the first one of these bags were installed in the Riviera, as they passed it became more and more common to see and catch pieces of these bags on the ocean, but the situation became critical after Hurricane Dean when a lot of this bag got "lost" into the sea, more and more cases of scratched Geotubes are appearing all along the coastline even nowdays, 2 months after Hurricane Dean.
This bag is just one betwen lots that get "lost" during Hurricane Dean.
Smashed Gobags floating in the ocean represent a high risk not only against the reef that can be covered and kill by it but also for swimers who can get caught and drawn with the bag.
On ecosystems serving for endangered species like turtle nesting on Akuamal, geotubes represent a serious modification that affects all the system behavior; presence of geobags on the ocean change the flow, under the sand changes the sand moisture and above the sand and ocean simply denies the access to the beach.
After finding this Geobag we proceed to fill a report for the local authorities asking them to pick it up, we are still wating for an answer.

Coastal Clean-Up
Coastal Cleanup Day is an event where local school children and SAVE. (Society of Akumal’s Vital Ecology) work together and comb the beaches in search of reasons why trash was left behind. These day projects can be organized throughout the year.
